In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.”
We believe baptism is a moment to remember that we are God’s beloved. When children are baptized, we believe the parents and the congregation recognize them as God’s beloved and pledge to raise them in this confidence.
In adult baptism, we ask the one to be baptized if they “believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior; do they turn away from sin and evil in the world; and, will they seek to follow Jesus?” Baptism is offered to those who answer these questions for their child or themselves.
As Presbyterians, it is our tradition that the congregation makes a commitment to support you and your child in the process of Christian nurture. However, we invite you to bring along one or two special friends to stand with you as Sponsors.
